Dear Flock,
From time to time, we will be asking some of our favorite animal activists what inspires them, and what irks them. Today we are talking to our good friend, Gena Hamshaw, from Choosing Raw, who is not only currently working toward becoming a medical doctor (way to go, Gena! We need more vegan M.D.s!), but is also the force behind so many healthy, delectable recipes that we make and love. (She’s also really fun pedicure companion.)
Love,
The Hens

Our Hen House: Gena, my dear, what inspires you?
#PRIVATE#Gena Hamshaw: The energy and passion of people around me. Opera by Mozart, movies by Woody Allen, and poems by John Donne, Wendell Berry, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Alexander Pope, W.B. Yeats, Adrienne Rich, and Frank O’Hara (not necessarily in that order). Farm sanctuaries. New York City.
OHH: What irks you?
GH: Conventionality. Inefficiency. Indifference. Complacency. Waiting (for anything). The word “disrespect.” Excessive use of ellipses in emails.
