One of my Facebook friends, Lisa Rimmert, recently sent me what I thought was a great idea for some armchair activism that anybody could do in their spare time. We like to call it: Wiki Activism.
It goes like this: When you have a few moments, look up various animal-related things on Wikipedia. Lisa, for example, looked up “dairy cattle” and simply had to change the wording. Besides just wording, organizations like PETA and Farm Sanctuary often have a lot of facts and figures you could throw into a Wiki article, facts that are in our favor. See something in there you want to see rewritten? Rewrite it!
Of course, it absolutely has to be factual and citations need to be provided. Definitely skim the guidelines before you take this on. Wiki also has thorough info on how to edit a page.
Think of it like this: If a lot of us stay on top of animal-related Wikis, we are — on some level, anyway — staying on top of the industry.
Oh, and you can bet the industry is staying on top of all the vegan related Wikis, so keep your eye on those, too.
In addition to editing pre-existing Wikis, you might consider adding new ones that cover specific animal-related topics, campaigns, activists, etc. that are not currently on Wikipedia. Here’s how.
