Episode 165: “Who feeds a hungry animal, feeds his own soul.”

iStock_000008537373_ExtraSmallWelcome to the 165th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Josh Tetrick of Hampton Creek Foods.

In today’s episode, we discuss the motivation that some people claim to have for leaving their veganism behind. This includes an in-depth conversation about shame, and the role it plays in our lives in terms of our choices, and our ability to live in an ethical continuum with our beliefs. We’ll also discuss cravings, addictions, and the danger of misappropriating certain phrases.

Aside from that, today’s ramblings will include talk of bunions and onions, as well as oppression-flavored cosmetics for kids, and whether or not introversion is a diagnosis.

beyond-eggs-247x300Joining us today is a man who gives us hope and inspiration. We’ll talk with Josh Tetrick, the CEO of Hampton Creek Foods, the company responsible for Beyond Eggs, a new product that is about to change the shape of animal agriculture forever. Hold onto your oven mitts, and keep your champagne close at hand. This is the future.

For our review, we’ll talk about an old episode of the TV show “30 Days,” which is now available on Netflix instant streaming.  In this episode (Season 3, Episode 3), which we’re eager to discuss with you, a hunter spends a month living with a group of PETA activists, where he attends protests, learns about animal issues, and dines solely on vegan grub. Will he come out changed? We’ll talk about this episode, and about the role that these kinds of social experiments have when it comes to social justice.

All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
